The Sherman Lee Sterling foundation will hold its annual fund raiser: Caribbean Heritage Awareness Festival on June 15th 2013 in Downtown Birmingham, Alabama Proceeds to benefit SLS Exprrres efforts to further Awareness of Type 2 Diabetes in the Community.

Each year the festival pays tribute to the memory of the festival’s former Music Director, the late Ms. Lou Jean Johnson. Ms. Johnson, long-time keyboardist and music director for The Sterling Brothers Band succumbed to complications from diabetes in the fall of 2011. She was a school teacher and community activist in the Birmingham area and her important work to uplift and enlighten the youths of Alabama will continue through the efforts of the SLS Foundation.
